Community Legal Information (CLI) lawyer referral service
The Law Society of PEI is a proud supporter of the Community Legal Information (CLI) lawyer referral service. To further support this important program the Law Society will give continuing professional development credit to lawyers who are part of this service.
Starting immediately and effective January 1, 2023, lawyers who are a part of the CLI lawyer referral service will receive:
A one-time credit of 1 hour of continuing professional development for joining/being a part of the lawyer referral service, and 1 hour of continuing professional development credit for every 5 CLI clients they see per year.
Maximum annual continuing professional development credit for being part of the lawyer referral service will be 2 hours.

Law Society Launched Mentorship Pilot Program
The Secretary/Treasurer announced the launch of the Pilot Mentorship Program to the Articled Clerks during the Bar Admission Course. Sixteen mentors have accepted to participate in the program which has been designed to support practice management and related areas, not substantive law. The program will be evaluated for 6 - 8 months and if there is positive feedback it will be expanded to include lawyers with two years and under of practice. 2022 King's Counsel Appointments
This year’s highest honour in the legal profession has been awarded to Andrew D. Campbell, Kevin J. Kiley, and Perlene J. Morrison.

2021 Queen's Counsel Appointments
Ruth M. DeMone and D. Shannon Farrell are receiving the highest honour in the field of law.
“It is an honour to recognize Ruth and Shannon for the excellence they demonstrate in their careers and the significant contributions they have made to our Island communities. They are testaments to the practice of law and are exemplary legal practitioners. Federation of Law Societies Publishes Guidance on the Implication of the Russia/Belarus Sanctions for Legal Professionals
In recent weeks the Canadian government has enacted a number of sanctions against individuals and entities in Russia and Belarus in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Anti Money Laundering Rules, Amendments to the Regulations of the Legal Profession Act
At the 2021 Annual General Meeting of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island the membership approved amendments to the Regulations of the Legal Profession Act – Anti Money Laundering Rules which will come into effect on September 1, 2021.
Law Society Donates to CBC Feed A Family
The Law Society of PEI donated $500 to the Upper Room Hospitality Ministry in support of the annual CBC Feed a Family promotion.

Temporary Foreign Worker Protection Legislation Consultations
The Department of Economic Growth, Tourism, and Culture is undertaking stakeholder consultations on the development of Temporary Foreign Worker Protection Legislation.
